Farm girl trapped in the city...

Our story

My name is Kendra and I am located in the suburbs of Sacramento. Breeding and showing chickens were never in my long-term plans for my life, and yet I now can’t imagine a life without them. I grew up in a city, but my heart was always happiest around animals especially the livestock animals—goats, cows, horses—but since we lived in the city we had cats, dogs, parakeets, fish, reptiles, and rabbits instead.

While the chickens and quail started as a small flock for eggs, it quickly became clear that they were a full-blown love and hobby. I love being around them, watching them, loving them, and admiring these unique, beautiful, and special animals.

Over the past 4 years we have grown and become much more heavily involved in the poultry show circuit both through 4-H (I am the poultry project leader) and as individuals. We show Belgian d’Anvers, Belgian Watermaals, bantam Ameraucanas, and bobtail cochins. My love for these breeds has grown with each hatch, and I am now also the District Director of the Belgian Bearded d’Anver Association covering California and Nevada.

I work to breed towards the Standard of Perfection (SOP) for each breed, but I also love adorable, bearded birds so we also keep many mixed breeds for love and eggs. Every bird we own, and hatch is loved as if it is ours and a part of the family. They live in our living room, they watch TV with my children, and on occasion they go on road trips to pick up the kids from daycare. We get regular updates from many whom we have sold chicks or eggs or even roosters to and enjoy every one of them.

I am not a large breeding business, I do not make a profit doing this, but I enjoy hatching, improving on the breeds I love, and helping others start their poultry addiction! Thanks for checking us out and let me know if I can help in any way with your poultry journey.
